What type of cases are Education Solicitors involved in? Education Solicitors can be used for any area related to the law within education and those involved in education. This article looks at some examples of the types of situation where Education Solicitors might be employed.

There are many examples of education related law. The author of this article is not a legal expert, and the below are simply some examples of situations where education solicitors may be used.

Entry to School, College or University

Some parents whose child has been denied a place at their first choice school have looked to take legal action in the belief that the decision is wrong in the eyes of the law. If they believe they are entitled to a place (for example they are within the catchment area) and have not been given one they may feel this is the only way to resolve the issue. They may know someone from further afield or someone who didnt reach the entry requirements who did get a place. They may therefore seek an explanation as to the reason for the rejection, and if unhappy with the reason given they might look to take it further.

Similarly, some students denied a University place may also look at the legal options if they feel they have met the requirement but have still not gained entry.

Bullying

There have been situations where parents have taken legal action because their child has been bullied at school. In many cases this is against the school because they have not taken adequate action. It might be that they believe steps werent put in place to prevent bullying or that teachers failed to spot it happening. In other cases there may be evidence that teachers knew what was happening but did nothing about it. Some parents have been in a situation where they have repeatedly told the school about a particular problem but nothing has been done about it, and therefore have sued the school for not acting in the correct matter.

Unfair Treatment from Teachers

There are sometimes accusations that a particular teacher has treated a pupil unfairly. It may even be that they have been bullied, either physically or verbally, by a teacher or picked on. Another example is where they feel their work is being unfairly marked.

Protest Against Exam Results

Some have taken legal action due to being unhappy about the exam results they have got. Some have had exams re-marked for this reasons, with some results changed as a consequence. There have been examples of this at GCSE, A-Level and Degree level.

Expulsion

There are times where parents feel that their child has been unjustifiably expelled from their school and they have decided to pursue the legal avenues.

Setting Up Independent Schools or Academies

Just like the setting up of a business, setting up an independent school requires certain legal processes. Therefore, specialist education solicitors may be hired to make sure everything runs smoothly from a legal standpoint.

Physical education in schools is becoming a popular discussion topic. Are children getting enough gym class time? Is the amount of physical activity directly correlated with their test scores? More and more studies are indicating that a good physical education is vital in growing healthier, smarter and more creative young people.

For years, gym class has been seen as a necessity in schools. Children have a need to be active and they thrive when instructors let them play organized sports and games. Scientists are beginning to understand why exactly this physical activity makes them thrive.

Aside from the obvious need to let children have a physical outlet for energy, some scientists see a correlation between physical education and mental health. Children that are more active are showing signs of higher amounts of serotonin. This compound acts as a neurotransmitter and has shown connections to an increased sense of health, happiness and well-being.

Greater amounts of serotonin in the bloodstream can quite simply mean happier children.

Children who exercise also show an increased understanding of their bodies and how they work. This education can lead to children having greater self-awareness and a healthier self-image. Most children will be able to see the connection between exercise and change in muscle, fat or otherwise. They will be willing to establish a healthy relationship with exercise as a lifestyle choice and a good way to keep their bodies in the best shape.

Children who are enrolled in physical education, usually receive instruction in health, including nutrition. Children then begin to understand that when they eat healthy they have greater amounts of energy to expend in games and sports.

Like exercise, they begin to learn that healthy eating is a lifestyle choice and one that can positively impact the growth of the skeletal and muscular systems. Children learn to take pride in affecting their growth through their food choices, and may cause them to become adults with healthy habits.

Finally, exercise positively affects the way children think. There are studies linking children in physical education classes with having higher test scores. Adults have been told for years that living an active lifestyle will keep them from losing reasoning skills and stops early memory loss. Exercise has been proven to promote brain growth. Now, we are beginning to see that the same brain growth occurs in physically active children. Kids who exercise show greater reasoning, critical thinking and memory skills.

Principals, coaches, teachers and parents alike are recognizing the necessity of keeping physical education in schools. No longer is it seen as a frivolous part of the day. Learning about exercise and how to exercise is promoting mentally and emotionally healthy children. These children are showing an increased understanding of their minds and bodies and how to lead a healthy lifestyle and eat properly. Perhaps most importantly, they are acquiring skills and habits necessary to become a healthy adult.

Summer is almost here and parents are looking for ways to keep their kids entertained, engaged and learning. Many families will enroll children in music lessons over the summer, but there are other economical ways to introduce kids to the joy of playing an instrument.

I teach violin at the St. Louis School of music and I know that not all families have the time, resources and or interest to devote to private instruction and buying or renting a violin, cello or piano.

For these families, I have found the ocarina is a great instrument to introduce kids to music. It is small enough to fit in a pocket, inexpensive and easy to play. Even young kids can pick out simple tunes quickly through online lessons or method books.

The ocarina is also small enough for kids to take it with them wherever they go, to the park, pool or on vacation. And it has a pleasant sound, even in the hands of a beginner.

Ocarinas belong to a class of instruments called vessel flutes that developed in various ancient cultures around the world. They are usually made of clay or plastic and played by blowing with various degrees of pressure into the ocarina and changing the pitch by fingering holes in the instrument. These range from four holes for the simplest models to 12 or more for more advanced versions.

In addition to teaching violin, I develop ocarinas and write lesson books that children can use to teach themselves to play. Here are a couple of summer enrichment packages offered by our company, STL Ocarina:

The Art of Ocarina for Young Children: This method book is specially designed for children and those of who are young at heart. Through ten step-by-step lessons, you can learn how to read music and how to play songs on your six-hole ocarina. No prior musical knowledge is required. A demonstration CD is included so you can play along with us! This book also includes: 10 Step-by-step lessons; colorful fingering chart; over 30 well-known songs; tips on how to practice each song; and a free 6-hole plastic ocarina. SRP: Available at http://stlocarina.com/method3.html

The Art of Ocarina for Older Kids (ages 10+): This method book is designed to help older children and adults learn to play the ocarina. No prior musical knowledge is required. In addition to presenting various rhythms and the fingerings for the notes, our lessons provide instruction on how to read standard musical notation on the ocarina. The repertoire chapter includes 12 famous songs with detailed information on how to practice each song. A demonstration CD of all the songs in the book is provided to help you learn to play beautifully. This method book includes: 12 Step-by-Step lessons; how to play each note; tips on how to practice; breathing techniques; how to play various rhythms; how to play in different keys; scales and exercises for daily practice; over 50 well-known songs; and a demonstration CD. Also included in this custom package is a 12-hole Plastic Tenor Ocarina in C Major. SRP: . Available at http://www.stlocarina.com

The fact that the ocarina is so easy to play is a great confidence booster and can inspire kids to try other instruments. And, students who are more into sports or other pursuits can still get the benefits of music education without the time commitment required by more demanding instruments.

Learning to play music well builds creativity, confidence, persistence problem-solving, and other skills that can help children in schoolwork and in life. Regardless of the instrument, every kid should get the opportunity to experience the joy and sense of accomplishment that comes from learning to play.

When students master a piece of music that seemed at first impossible, they develop confidence and persistence that can help them in academics and whatever they set out to do.

I have seen this again and again teaching violin at the St. Louis School of Music. Students who apply themselves intelligently, efficiently and persistently end up surpassing their own expectations and achieving their goals.

Sometimes the lessons don’t come easily. I can remember when I was in high school getting frustrated in practice. I would play a section of music 50 times in a row and the next day it would sound as if I’d never practiced it. It seemed as if I’d made no progress. But later, I watched my husband practice violin day after day with seemingly little or no progress and noticed he did not seem to get frustrated. He just kept at it, trying various solutions each day. Over a couple of weeks his progress would become apparent and the end result was always brilliant.

That’s an important lesson of music education. Kids learn not to get impatient or discouraged when they don’t learn something immediately.

One of my students came to me totally lacking in confidence. She had very low expectations of herself. Her previous music teacher had let her develop a lot of bad habits. Over five years we have worked to fix those bad habits.

At first the progress was slow. Often when I corrected something in her playing, it would upset her and she would cry or act silly. Treating her with kid gloves did not seem to help.

Recently I decided to treat her like the other students instead of walking on eggshells around her feelings. If something is not right, I tell her directly without sugar coating my explanations. I raised my expectations for her and made it clear that I was expecting more of her. I saw an immediate improvement, a night-and-day change over a couple of weeks. She is growing more independent in her practice sessions and much more confident in what she can achieve. Rather than feeling hurt by my increasingly blunt corrections, she is pushing herself to achieve more.

Of course, some of this is because she is older and more mature now. But she is also learning what a great feeling it is to tell herself “look what I have accomplished.”

Music is a great way to learn excellence because it contains so many details that have to be exactly right. For some teachers, getting students to play the correct notes is enough. I have found, though, that students gain a lot more confidence when I push them to play with nuance and sensitivity. As I have started being tougher, my students are playing better and are happier for it.

When kids learn something that is too easy, they don’t gain confidence. It is through meeting challenges and mastering problems that they build self-confidence. This is an important lesson for parents who want to motivate their kids to succeed.

With my students, especially as they get older, I expect precision. When I give them feedback, it is honest and sincere. Music is a perfect avenue for teaching young people how to respond positively to constructive criticism. They start to realize that sometimes it takes more than a couple of tries to get something right.

We also teach the ocarina, a palm-sized wind instrument that developed in several ancient cultures. While it is easier to play than violin or piano, it is also good for building confidence, especially in younger children. They too can learn the work ethic of being persistent and not giving up.

With the violin, you could play for years and still sound like a student. With ocarina you can sound pretty good in a short period of time, but it is still not instant gratification. This makes it a good instrument for those students who don’t make music a huge priority yet still want it in their lives. Students who are more into sports or other pursuits can still get the benefits of music education without the large time and financial commitment required by more demanding instruments.

No matter the instrument, learning to play music well builds confidence that can help students in schoolwork and even in their relationships and future careers. Persistence builds the confidence to realize they are much more capable than they think. There’s no better lesson for kids to learn than to know they can rise to a challenge.

If you’ve read my previous articles, you already know about the advantage of music education for children and how your child will benefit from voice lessons or playing musical instruments. Today we will cover that invisible motivational power that forces some parents to enroll their children in music education.

I suggest that, before you do this, you define exactly what you want from your children. If you’re happy with the idea, they will likely go along well with it, too. Your moods and thoughts imperceptibly creep into the consciousness of your child every hour and minute of the day. Our little family members consider us, their parents, to be the authority in everything. And some of us manage to maintain that authority through the teen years and even until the end of their lives.

When I was writing “Voices of our Children”, I re-read several old records I had kept from previous years. Many of them detailed conversations I had with parents who brought their children to music school for the first time.

The first meeting among parent, child and teacher is very significant. Everyone gets to know each other and things usually go very well in these introductory stages. But according to available statistics, only 1 percent (!) of parents is convinced at the very beginning that their child will become at least a very good musician. The other 99 percent bring their children with this thought: “Let’s do this and then see what comes of it.”

At one of the large conferences for music teachers organized by the Ministry of Culture of Russia in the Far East, I heard a phrase from one of the speakers that particularly drew my attention. He said: “It is a pity that those who are not as dedicated to music education do not hold conferences like these. Imagine how many mistakes could have been avoided during lessons?”

Whatever a person does for a living, in order for him to make a difference, he must have a passion and true zest for what he does. The child is not an exception. Parents know perfectly well that if their child is interested in something, he persistently asks for it. And no one will deny that a child’s true interest in music is a must during lessons and practice homework. So, it’s integral that parents are highly cognizant of their children’s thoughts.

You may be thinking, “Is it really necessary for my child to study with constant interest; that is, with pleasure, all the time?” That’s a good question, because sometimes it is necessary to forget your “wants” and tune in to your child’s natural attraction to (or away from) music.

And certainly, every one of us must struggle and strain and make ourselves do something – even those things that we are passionate about. But this only occurs occasionally. If you force yourself to play music time and time again, you will slip into depression and possibly lose interest in everything, in addition to the dread of practicing homework, etc.

It is impossible to compare the mentality of an adult with that of a child and use yourself as an example, saying something like, “I too do not want to go for work; however, I do.” In comparison to children, our life experience is much larger and our attitude to specific events is far more stable. In other words, we must work in order to make a living; to stay alive! Children do not have to play music to stay alive. So, these are two very different life experiences, and it amazes me that parents sometimes just don’t see it that way.

So if you think it’s time to force your child to prepare for music lessons, by all means do it, but do not make a habit out of it – and if your child is happy with every second lesson, it would be great to make sure that he constantly studies with interest. How can you do this? Hopefully, by finding a very good teacher who, in due time will suggest different ways of working with your child on a distinctly individual basis. It is only through cooperation with the teacher you can constantly promote and support your child’s interest in music. If the options the teacher offers do not work, then make the necessary conclusions and modifications.

Where do parents get the information on how other children are doing at music lessons or prepare for them at home? Is it possible to read about it in books? Can you get the information in libraries?

Certainly, those are good resources, but you don’t have to go that far, necessarily. Parents can hear about this from their child’s teacher. A good teacher of music will openly and happily tell you about other students’ experiences. But the main “news source” for parents is deceptively simple: other parents! The parental exchange of information is invaluable in that they can share stories that happened to their child, and vice versa. This makes it easier for Mom and Dad to compare the achievements of their own children to others. This is where they learn about difficulties in music education, such as when children immediately or gradually lose the interest and desire to study.

Unfortunately for parents, however, this exchange of information and/or the recognition that their child might be losing interest occurs too late, and no one can clearly explain to them the real reasons the child’s interest vanished. And without finding a “quick fix” or a solution to this problem, again, your chances of re-enrolling your child are slim, because he isn’t going to be interested in it! Also, by this time, the next group of parents step into the same “puddle,” and as a result, your child will never complete music education. “What can I do, then?” you ask. I suggest that you learn and try to understand what not to do.

Primarily, a music teacher’s task lies in the idea of effective and creative communication. Thus, credibility and reliability have always been an issue to academic institutions, their teaching and non-teaching personnel and even the student body.

Music teachers simultaneously motivate, inspire, and support their students through innovative music teachers resources. Whether these resources and tips are from the experiences of other teaching individuals, educators, academes or from the internet, what important is you are able to meet your goals and stay committed to your purpose.

When you make use of effective music teachers resources and tips, you are more likely to gain the interests of your students – encouraging them to love music more. As you become good influences and examples to them, they not just tend to love music as one of their subjects but they also have come to love you as their mentors and icons.

I have here a list of different feedbacks, compliments and even suggestions of the students when a group of music educators have rendered effective music teaching strategies and have executed creative activities.

• The students are able to cultivate their interest in music and realize their potentials through unique and creative activities regarding their music class and its programs.
• Such music teachers resources allow them to learn about other aspects of music which are not covered in a specific course outline, syllabus or private music lessons.
• Music teachers are able to encourage and give them such opportunity and exposure that they truly need to create and perform music creatively and independently yet effectively and promptly.
• Students are able to learn music as well as the significance of academic freedom and independence. Thus, cooperative learning has played a vital role in this manner since they are tasked to work collaboratively with their co-students and meet a common set of objectives.
• Creative activities, which seem unusual and innovative, have brought up fun and excitement among students – making them more interested, hooked and eager to learn new things and eventually apply them in real life.
• The enhanced program for music teaching has been remarked by the students as a way to boost self-confidence, establish camaraderie among classmates, and experience the fun of learning music – all at the same time.
• Such exposure to music technology and other relevant innovations have showcased more talents and have brought out the best in most of the students.

It really pays to regenerate more teaching resources and strategies that are more appealing to the kind of students we have in today’s generation. Maximizing resources and efforts, music teachers would then realize that music education could be the most rewarding experience.

Good music teaching resources and studio policies are indeed necessary as they intend to create a conducive and healthy learning environment. Music teachers must set good and strict business principles and classroom practices so as to eliminate confusion, inconsistency and misunderstanding among studio clients, students, parents as well as the entire teaching personnel.

Certainly, as you decide to put up your own music studio, your studio policies and resources must also be ready for posting and dissemination. Therefore, you have to devise, update and implement them consistently and reliably.

Studio Policy: Basics, Advantages and Benefits
A studio policy is a set of written rules and regulations that has to be strictly observed and implemented. Private music studio owners as well as music teachers must specify and define all points and items in the studio policy itself so as to have everything clearly explained and discussed. Studio policy also lessens the risks and circumstances where a problem or a conflict may likely arise.

Though some studio policies differ in concept and context, they must include citations on various areas like fees, payment schemes, work and class schedules, class requirements, lesson preparations, service arrangements and other relevant issues necessary in managing your own music studio.

Music Teaching Resources
As studio policy is made as specific as music teaching resources are, tips on how to make and construct such are certainly essential. Setting a good studio policy is as good as generating music teaching resources. Since these two have to be both up-to-date, concise, concrete and complete, music teachers must keep in mind that rigid research really plays a vital role in coming up with effective and efficient resources and policies in music teaching. Such research can be done in just few clicks – using the power of technology and innovation.

Using informational documents and tools, citing insights and experiences, writing studio policy, motivating social and classroom participation as well as giving tips and advices are all great teaching techniques in driving your way to academic success through music education.

These professional and business means: music teaching resources and studio policies are both important in meeting the goal of the institution. Therefore, you have to be sure that they are truly focused and relevant in teaching and learning music.

Stick to Your Music Teaching Resources and Studio Policies
Music teachers have to be consistent and prompt both in their teaching and managerial strategies. This is to establish reliability and credibility not just for their profession but also for their relationship among students and studio clients. As they stick to their rules, policies, resources and techniques, people around them would be used to those concepts and would be able to apply such in daily activities and endeavors.

Remember that your policies and resources in music education are as important and as beneficial as your motivation and willingness to disseminate and employ to the learners and the clients as well as to implement in their future dealings and ventures.

Being a music teacher can be a challenging task. It involves a dose of time and effort to be spent on research, enhancement and upgrade in terms of your teaching strategies and methods. Since teaching and learning are both dynamic in nature, you as an educator must know how to advance your music teaching resources and techniques so as to become efficient and effective at all times.

In this article, you would be informed and updated with the latest resources and strategies on music teaching – suitable for all students from different walks of life. This also includes their corresponding benefits, advantages and corresponding approaches. Here they are:

Brainstorming among Students

This is a process that is designed for generating multiple ideas/options in which judgment is suspended until a maximum number of ideas have been made. Following generation of ideas, options are typically analyzed; the best solution is identified; and, a plan of action is developed.

Its advantages include:

* the active involvement of learners in higher levels of thinking;
* the promotion of peer learning and critical thinking; and,
* the creation of synergy, teamwork and cooperation.

To meet their sets of objectives, music teachers must use methods that would stimulate thinking, creativity, inquiry, and consensus. They should also provide clear instructions on how the process exactly works – ensuring that all students adhere to the rules.

Computer Simulation

In this context, such specific and practical examination, procedural training and data interpretation skills in realistic situations through the use of highly realistic computerized dummies and multimedia are utilized and applied accordingly to further teach particular music lessons.

Advantages of computer simulation are the following:

* Students can portray realistic situations, provide immediate feedback and inquiry, and most of all, can make use of such learning and acquisition in real life experiences.
* This also allows the learners to stay focused on such topic – eliminating irrelevant and unnecessary aspects.

Music educators must choose learning objectives that involve hands-on experience that can allow the students to have direct control and access to music technology. However, the faculty must be trained and equipped with such simulation skills so as to instruct the learners correspondingly and facilitate experiences and feedbacks accordingly.

Interactive Demonstrations and Games

These strategies pave way to activities where learners can observe how they are being done and administered in preparation to practical application. These may involve competitions, participations, drills and feedbacks into the learning experience as a motivating factor and a ground for application of principles.

It is really beneficial to both music educators and students to integrate such demo and games in the learning process. These help boost their self-confidence and broaden their attention span – targeting questions and answers. Such techniques also actively involve learners, regenerate motivation, provide challenges and express oneself while creating a fun learning environment.

These may be just some of the many effective music teachers’ resources and teaching strategies that are readily available online to help all music educators around the globe spread this message: Learning music is a rewarding and fun experience that can change and touch lives.
